Jaguar Mask

The predator-spirit. A low frequency that opens the root.

2024

A ceremonial sonic mask of the jaguar — predator-spirit of the Andean and Amazonian cosmologies. The whiskers are individual ceramic filaments that extend beyond the body to mark the radius of the felid's perception. Worn high or held low, the mask shifts the wearer's relationship to space: from gaze to ambush.

Sonic anatomy

How it sounds. How it connects.

  • Tone

    Low growl · 96–144 Hz

  • Chamber

Single closed resonator inside the cranial dome; vibrations travel through bone conduction to the jaw and clavicles

  • Activation

Breathe slow against the inner palate. The mask answers with a chest-tone — the sound feline kin make before they move.

  • Energy

Root · base of spine · the courage to descend before rising

The ritual

The Jaguar is the mask of weight. When you put it on, the head drops a centimetre and the breath slows on its own — the body remembers a posture it never learned.

Carved with iron-rich red engobe and a white-slip belly, the resonator inside the cranial dome is tuned to a low growl between 96 and 144 Hz. That range overlaps the natural resonance of the human ribcage; the vibration travels by bone conduction from the mask into the jaw, the clavicles, the sternum.

The whiskers are sixty centimetres of individual ceramic filaments. They are not decorative — they extend the radius of the wearer's perception, mapping the space the way the animal does: by air displacement, by trespass, by the silence of what is about to move.

Use it when you need to root. When the work is in the body and not yet in the voice. The Jaguar teaches the descent.
